STRESS /
ANXIETY

Stress is recognized as "America's leading health problem" by the American Institute of Stress, constituting bodily, emotional, and mental responses to the demands of life. It can produce physical symptoms, such as headaches, insomnia, fatigue, stomach aches, body pain, acne, and digestive issues. Stress can also lead to mental symptoms, including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, food and eating issues, addictions and/or compulsions, and substance use. Anxiety involves feelings of fear, dread, and uneasiness. Emotional symptoms of stress might be irritability, sadness, anger, apathy, and overwhelm. If you are familiar with some of these symptoms, I can help you learn to manage the experience.

Getting to the root cause of stress or anxiety and understanding the beliefs that lead to inner conflict can help resolve the issue at the source. Some common stressors include:

  • Losing a job or starting a new job

  • Getting divorced or going through a breakup

  • Getting married

  • Being discriminated against

  • Experiencing a change in financial status

  • Following the news or politics

  • Having a child

  • Moving

  • Beginning or ending school

  • Experiencing a loss

  • Being diagnosed with a serious illness

In my own journey I have experienced stress related to many different life experiences, including school, work, relationship, and family issues. As I learn to understand and identify what specifically is causing my stress, I discover what I can do to resolve those issues and create more peace in my life. Some practices I've found to relieve stress include mindfully breathing, making art, playing music, reflecting on what I'm grateful for, and engaging in fun exercise.
